General Information:

Bogota or Bogota D.C. (Capital) is the capital city of Colombia. Bogota is situated in the heart of the country on the eastern part of "sabana de Bogota". Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada founded the city in 16th century and named it as Santa Fe de Bacata that has become modern Bogota. The city was under the Spanish colonial power since then. Bogota houses a population of 7321831 people according to 2005 census. The terrain is hilly with the beautiful Bogota River and its tributaries forming lush valleys and picturesque villages on its routes. The temperature remains within 12.55 to 23.9 degree centigrade all through the year. Bogota is the administrative and economic center of Colombia. The city is well planned with twenty distinct localities. It is the principal hub of Colombian trade and commerce. The headquarters of many foreign companies are located in Bogotá. Downtown Bogotá is the best place to stroll around in the city. It is dotted with various shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels and boutiques. Zona Rosa around Carerra offers vibrant nightlife.

Tourist Attractions:

La Candelaria historic center is a place of grand tourist attraction with a beautiful colonial streets, museums and churches. The Plaza de Bolivar houses the seat of both Federal and Local governments. The colonial buildings with ostensible balconies nd the cobbled alleys of the surrounding area are worth visiting. The Museo del Oro Gold Museum is a spectacular tourist-visiting place. Its striking collection of pre-Colombian gold artifacts is awe-inspiring. Transportation :

El dorado airport located few kilometers from the center is the principal airport of Bogotá. Various national airlines like Avianca, AeroRepública, AIRES and SATENA, and international airlines such as Iberia, American Airlines, Varig, Copa, Continental, Delta, Air Canada, Aerogal,TAME, TACA connect to the airport. The city has a comprehensive bus network. There are deluxe buses as well as corriente or normal buses. The rapid bus system known as TransMileno is a cheap and reliable bus service running on the city's main routes. Bike paths known as Ciclorutas are available to travel around the city on bikes. There are several types of taxi services on the city. Yellow taxis provide faster travel. White taxis are used as shuttles by the renowned hotels.

Shopping :
Unicentro is the city's largest shopping center that provides excellent shopping opportunities to the tourists. Galleria Minas de Colombia is a good place for jewelry shopping. Artesanias de Colombia is famous for its handicrafts displays. Hacienda Santa Barbara Shopping Mall in the northern part of the city is a grand shopping destination.
