Sanaa, Yemen

General Information:

Sanaa the capital to one of the most beautiful country in the World- Yemen is on the World Heritage List. The Republic of Yemen is located in the southwest corner of the Arabian Peninsula, in the southern west part of Asia. Saudi Arabia borders it in the north, Arab Sea and the Indian Ocean in the south, Sultanate Oman from east, and Red Sea from west.
The Great Marib Dam is a very arresting structure and shows the early development of Yemenite civilizations. Arabian Nights come alive in the picturesque city of Sanaa full of colorful and majestic edifices boosting its skyline. Many remains of the Queen Bilquis or Queen of Sheba's Throne, Temples have remained so far. Marib is considered one of the most significant archeological sites in Yemen. By the seventeenth century, Yemen was famous for trading Yemeni coffee, which was considered the finest coffee then!

The total area o f Yemen is approximately 555,000 km, excluding Al Rub al-Khali and the total population of Yemen is 19,700,000 according to the census of 2003.

In summer, it is fresh and moderate in the mountains can be hot but bearable on the coasts and the deserts. The climate of Yemen can be classified under three climate zones: Tihaman stretched along the Red Sea, the hot and humid south coastal strip. In winter, the climate in the coastal area is relatively moderate. An occasional rain in summer caused by the monsoon.The weather in the mountain areas is moderate in summer and relatively cold in winter. During winter, it becomes especially cold at night and in the early morning with pleasant sunny days.

Tourist Attractions:

Old City is a fortified city full of architectural gems. The United Nations declared it a World Heritage City in 1984. Efforts are underway to preserve some of the oldest buildings, some of which are over 400 years old. Surrounded by ancient clay walls that stand six to nine meters high, the old city boasts of 100 mosques, 12 hammams and 6500 houses.
Many of the houses look rather like ancient skyscrapers - reaching several storeys high, topped with flat roofs, and highly decorated. One of the most popular attractions is Suq al-Milh (Salt Market), where it is possible to buy not only salt but also bread, spices, raisins, cotton, copper, pottery, silverware, antiques, and a host of other goods. The majestic seventh century al-Jami'a l-Kabir is one of the oldest Mosques in the Muslim world. Bab al-Yaman m or the Yemen Gate is an entry point through the city walls and is over 700 years old. Plenty of Parks and Amusement Stations give you the necessary respite from your Tour.
