Kirkuk

Kirkuk, one of the oldest cities that has been a witness to the continuous occupation, has now developed into a major petroleum producing center. Turing the pages of history would reveal that the city is as old as 5,000 years Built along the shores of the Hasa River, the old city of Harrapha which represents modern Kirkuk grew to immense popularity in the 10th and the 11th centuries. Besides being a major industrial hub, the Iraqi city of Kirkuk is important as because it is one of the center of Kurdish national identity. Located 250 kilometers from Baghdad, in northern Iraq, Kirkuk is situated on the foothills of the Zagros Mountains.
