General Information:
Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, whose official language is Vietnamese and local currency, the Vietnamese Dong. Located on the banks of the Red River, it is the commercial, political and economic centre of the country, having hot and humid summers and cold and dry winters and home to a population of 3,083,800 people. The name 'Hanoi' was given by King Minh Mang, which means a city within the river. It was the political centre of Vietnam from 1010 - 1802 and the capital of French Indochina and later, of North Vietnam before it became the capital of united Vietnam in 1976.
