Ashgabat is a comparatively new town of Turkmenistan, an earlier republic of the Soviet Union and is formed from a Turkmen village of the same name. The city is situated in-between the Kara Kum desert and the Kopet Dag mountain range with a population of 6, 95, 300 and is very close to the site of the ancient Capital city of the Parthians, Nisa, which was destroyed by the Mongols.
