Niamey City - Niger

Niamey is a port city on the Niger River. Niamey is Niger's largest city and enjoys prime location as it is near to river Niger and the highways. Niamey was a small town when the French colonized the area in the late nineteenth century, which later developed in the capital city of Niger in 1926.

There are many Tourist attractions in Niamey. The National Museum, which includes Exhibition pavilions, zoo, crafts center, village incorporating Nigerian housing Styles. The Grand Marche, Boulevard de lard Liberte is open daily, it houses one of West Africa's finest markets replete with modern architecture and fountains, specializing in food, fabric, crafts. Petit Marche is also famous for food, fabrics and crafts. Wadata Arts and Crafts Village gives you the unique opportunity to watch the master artisans at work, also you can buy high profile wares from boutiques. You can rent canoes, to sail along the Niger River. The Grande Mosque is one mile north of Grande Marche, and is famous for intricate Mosaics.

There is a popular Flea market- Boukai Market in Niamey. Oumarou Ganda Cultural Centre is an open Amphi theatre where films are screened and varieties of traditional music shows; ballet shows are open for the visitors. The French- Nigerian Museum exhibits the local artists at play, films, the artisan at their job, dance and theatre performances daily for the pleasure of the Tourist and local visitors.
