N'Djamena City - Chad

N'djamena in Chad, previously named as Fort-Lamy, was one of the most pleasant places in the Sahel. The Capital of Chad is N'Djamena, next to Cameroon on the southwestern border of Chad. It is on the east bank of Chari River near the coalescent point with Logone River.
The main ethnic populace is Chadian Arabs in the port City. The City bears the mark of troubled times in the form of Bullet marked buildings. Beautiful Chadian rugs and jewelry are found in the historic quarters of the city. The Sarh culture of the nineteenth century finds reverberations in the National museums. There are several Tourists attractions in N'Djamena, some of which are famous worldwide.

Zakouma National Park is across the Bahr Salamat and its tributaries flow from north to south in the in immense plains. Visitors can see huge flocks of elephants, giraffes and lion. Lake Chad was previously famous, as a center of Africa's lucrative salt trade but now it wears a deserted look.

The lake can be best enjoyed during August to December period, when the water level is highest and the stray hippopotamus or crocodile can be seen drifting by. Sarh 550 km south of N'djamena is the second-largest city of Chad. The National Museum and the Center for artisans are two of the major attractions in Sarh City.

Moundou is Chad's third-largest city and is known for its Gala Brewery that produces some of the best beer in the country. Abeche 890km east of N'djamena is surrounded by a desert. The town retains much of its oriental charm with interesting mosques, cobbled narrow streets and old markets making way for romance. Tibesti Mountains is said to be the home to the best racing camels in the world but is still a sensitive area. The Central market of N'Djamena is the liveliest spot in N'Djamena by day, full of stalls - book, food and crafts.
