Moroni located on the western part of Grand Comore Island is the capital city of Comoros. It is a principal port city and the largest settlement of the country.
Arab Merchants arrived from the Persian Gulf during the 15th Century. It was occupied by the French in the 19th century. It became the administrative capital after the independence of Comoros in 1958. The city has a unique Arab flavor in its buildings and architectures. The climate is pleasant with rainy days between June and November. According to 2003 census Moroni consists of a population of 60,200 people.
