General Information:
Maputo is the capital city of Mozambique on the west side of Maputo Bay on the southeastern Africa. The city was first explored by Lourenço Marques, a Portuguese trader and named after it. Under Portuguese influence the city prospered rapidly with awe stricken buildings, wonderful architectures, well-planned streets and markets. Lourenzo Marques became the capital city during the end of the nineteenth century. It flourished as a premier industrial and trading center and a major port. The city was renamed as Maputo after independence. Though the 1970 and 80s war damaged many tourist sites but the city is recovering to retain its past glory. With a population nearby 1000000 Maputo is familiar vacation spot with beautiful avenues, beaches and marvelous Portuguese architectures. The climate is tropical with warm and humid seasons.

Fort of Nossa Senhora da Conceiao in the center of the original settlement is a famous landmark of the city and a place of prime tourist attraction. Universidade Eduardo Mondlane is a popular tourist spot. It is the first university of Mozambique. Other places of inters in the city are Mozambique Historical Museum, Military Museum and Roman Catholic Cathedral. Fere de Populare is a well-known revelry spot. It houses several bars and discos to dance the night away. The beautiful Train Station built by Gustave Eiffel is surely not to be missed.

Transportation:
LAM operates flights from Mozambique to Maputo Beira Tete and other cities. There are also twice-weekly flights between the capital and the Bazaruto Archipelago. Buses are the best conveyances to travel around the city. Express buses are opted for their faster speed. Chapa-cems or passenger trucks are popular transports in the remote areas. Cars can be hired from local agencies.
