General Information:
Situated on the Gulf of Guinea Lome is Togo's charming capital city on southwest of Togo. With a population approximately 700,000 according to 1998 census, Lome is the principal administrative and industrial center of Togo. The city is famous for its coffee, cocoa, palm and copra exports. The Ewe people are the first ones to inhabit the city. It was a beautiful village named as bay beach during the early times. It flourished as a trading center later on and became the capital in 1897. The French people acquired it during First World War. Lome and its magnificent beaches with indigenous village cultures and festivals attract tourists from all over the world. The climate is tropical with very dry seasons in the north.

Tourist attractions in Lome are variegated and diverse. Lake Togo a few distances from Lome is a great relaxation spot amidst spectacular natural sceneries. The Togo Ville or the historical village located nearby is a premier tourist attraction. The country got its name from this village. The Mono River valley near the border is another wonderful natural site. Other places of interest include German Military Camp at Kamina(Atakpame), Aledjo Mountain Gap(Bafilo), Agou Akrowa Waterfall at Badou, Fazao Forest Reserve (Sokode-Blitta), Malfakassa Forest (Bassar), Valley of Tamberma(Kara) and Mandouri Hunting Reserve(Dapaong).

Transportation:
Various African and European airlines fly to Togo through Tokoin International Airport lying on the northeast of central Lome. Taxis and buses are available from the airports to enter the interior of the city. The railway line to Blitta connects the city. Minibuses are available to travel the coastal areas between Lome and Cotonou (Benin). Bush taxis are much cheaper than the buses. Daily minibuses to Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) depart from Agbalepedo station on the north of central Lome.

Akodessewa Fetish Market is popular for its religious and medical exhibits. Voodoo stalls are famous for their items of magic like the cowrie shells. Markets attract tourists with some fabulous items like indigo cloth, dye-stamped Adinkira cloth, batik, traditional masks and wood sculptures.
