General Information:
The small country of Djibouti in eastern Africa lies on the horn of Africa bordering the Red Sea, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia. Djibouti city located on the southern part of the country near the Somali border is the only city of Djibouti and also the country's capital. Various nomadic tribes like the Somali and the Afar tribes inhabited Djibouti in the very early times. Later on (1862) the French people settled in the Djibouti area. Djibouti gained its independence on 1977. The city is an important harbor town with tremendous French influence. The landscape is rocky with volcanic deserts, small mountain ranges thorn bushes and steppes. The Red Sea coast and some spectacular lakes like the Lugu Lake have made Djibouti a top tourist destination of Africa. The population of the country is 486,530(July 06). The climate is hot and humid with scarce rainfalls.

Tourist Attractions:
Place Menelik is the town center and a major tourist spot with numerous colonial French buildings, tourist offices, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Khor Ambado Beach in Tadjoura Bay is a wonderful relaxation spot with its pleasant weather and rich scenic surrounding. The beach provides excellent water sports facilities like swimming and snorkeling. Djibouti Old City, Dorale Beach, Grand Bara, Lake Abbe, Lake Assal, and Presidential Palace are other notable tourist attractions of Djibouti.

Djibouti International Airport in the south of the city is the country's principal airport.
Air France and Djibouti Airlines operate flight to and from Djibouti. A railroad runs from Djibouti to Addis Ababa. Bush taxis and buses are popular local transports. There are ferry and dhow services from Djibouti.

Marche Central or the bustling central market is a major shopping center of Djibouti. There are shopping malls, open-air markets and lots to meet the demands of the crazy shopping lovers. The narcotic leaves are the popular items of sale.
