General Information:
Dar es Salaam located on the east coast of Africa on the Indian Ocean is the largest city in Tanzania. With a population approximately 2,500,000, it is the country's richest city and a major trading center. Sultan Seyyid Majid of Zanzibar coined the term Dar es Salaam that means abode of peace. Once termed as Mzizima or healthy City Dar es Salamm has a long historical background. The Sultanates, Germans and finally the British dominated the serene lands of Dar es Salaam. Once a beautiful fishing village Dar es Salaam has now turned into a sprawling metropolis and a major political and economic center. The climate is pleasant and the city offers exotic views with picturesque harbors, sun kissed beaches and wonderful historical sites. The Dar es Salaam Airport connects the city with other African countries, the Middle East and Europe. A good number of local and international flights operate from the airport. KLM Royal Dutch/Kenya Airways offer daily flights from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Dar es Salaam International Airport. Tazara rail routes connect between Dar es Salaam Tanzania and Kapiri Mposhi Zambia, via Coastal Region. Buses, taxis and cars are popular local transports.
