General Information:
Bujumbura is the capital city of Burundi on the northeast part of Lake Tanganyika. It is Burundi's major port city and the principal administrative, economic and cultural center. The country suffers from a long period of unrest due to the civil war. Today's Bujumbara is somewhat peaceful and relaxed with a population more than three lakhs. Bujumbura attracts tourists with its various architectures that pose a strong Germanic influence. It was a German colony until the end of the 19thC. The lake area provides excellent water sports like boating, water-skiing and fishing.

There is an airport in Bujumbura. But flights to and from Bujumbura are limited due to continuous civil war. Air Burundi and Ethiopian Airlines operates flights to Burundi. Many roads and highways are sealed. Minibuses are popular local transports. There is a ferry service along Lake Tanganyika between Bujumbura and Kigoma, Tanzania.
