Brazzaville

General Information:

Brazzaville situated on the Congo River is the capital and largest city of Congo. The city has been named from its French founder, Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza. It is a major financial and administrative center of Brazzaville. The beautiful Congo River, the Loufoulakari Falls and the Trou de Dieu offer a wonderful countryside view. There are vast tracts of forest in the northern region. The forests treasure diverse wild life and are also home to several indigenous tribes of Africa. The population of the city is around 2, 000000. The city is home to one-third population of Congo. The weather is generally dry with periodic rainfalls.

Tourist Attractions:

St Anne's Basilica famous for its emerald green roof is a principal tourist attraction of the city. ELF Tower, Congressional Palace, Marien Nguouabi Museum, Brazzaville Zoo, the Municipal Gardens, Poto-Poto Art School and The World Health Organization Regional Office are other notable places of visit in Brazzaville. The spectacular Gorges of Diosso cliffs are worth visiting. Linzolo is a famous tourist spot for housing the first church in Congo.

Transportation:

Maya-Maya Airport offers numerous flights to and from the city. The national airline, Lina Congo flies from Brazzaville to Pointe-Noire. Private charters are also popular. There are railway links to the city. Congo-Ocean Railway connects between Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire. But the Rail Service had been suspended for a time being due to civil unrest. Brazzaville is an important river port, with ferries to Kinshasa and to Bangui. . Minibus and taxis are popular local transports of the city.

Shopping:
The markets at Oluendze and Moungali exhibit various regional handcrafts and articles. There are some good markets and shopping malls in the Linzolo area.
